March Photo club Update!

Hey all!

Our next meeting will be Sunday, April 1 at 2P.M. Not an April fools joke!!

The subject for our monthly competition will be SNOW.

Hopefully we will have some good pictures from the outing on the 18th. However if you aren’t able to attend we decided at today’s meeting that you can submit a SNOW picture from January 1, 2012 until the 25th of March.

Remember to get your submission in by the 25th so that we can process the photo.

We will be doing a presentation on using the Histogram and how to understand it.

Thanks,
Alan Reeve

February 2012 Update!!!

Hey all!

Congratulations to Jana Allingham for her WOW picture and winning the January photo contest – Form! Please check it out in the photo gallery!

Our next challenge is going to really make us think. When you take your picture you will need to be able to tell us WHAT YOU WERE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH! So get out there and get that picture. You will find this exercise will help to give your photography another dimension.

After you have your picture you can forward it with a short write up to the club e-mail and we can have it ready for the next meeting (tentatively March 4th). We would appreciate your submission by Feb 25th so that we can get the submissions together for our next meeting. We will continue our new way of judging and critiquing to get everybody involved and gain new knowledge.

On another topic, if you are interested in volunteering for the WinterPlay Pond Hockey event happening at the end of February / beginning of March, please let Alan know.

Thanks,
WB Photo Club

November Update!

Hey all!

Our next meeting is going to be held on Sunday December 4th at 2PM at the Bob Lamb Centre (room tbd). This session, Kamlesh has volunteered to give a brief overview on wide depth of field gauges and we’d also like to specially dedicate this one to critiquing and viewing people’s photos, so if you have some you’d like to share, please bring them in. We always encourage folks to bring in their photos to share! (If not to show them off, but to also improve them! :) )

Congratulations to Bill Martin for winning the October photo contest – Action Photography! Feel free to check out his photo in the photo gallery section!

The next photo contest is actually a very broad theme. The next photo contest is… *drum roll*… Your Best Photo Taken of The Year!!!! Normally, our photo contest contest rules indicate that the photo submission requires you to submit a picture taken AFTER the photo contest announcement, but we’re going to make an exception! For the November photo contest, feel free to submit any photo, from any place taken anytime AFTER Jan. 1, 2011. Best of luck and we look forward to seeing your picture (all other rules apply – check out contest guidelines on the website)!

If you’re interested in participating in photo judging, we normally do photo judging one hour prior to the meeting starts. So come at 1PM on the meeting date to participate! The more the merrier! Plus it will give you some lessons on critiquing, composing, etc, etc, etc.

Feel free to check out Bill’s photo gallery up at Frames & More! And also check out the “Life” art exhibit at MacDonald Island featuring paintings, drawings and photography from the Wood Buffalo Arts & Crafts Guild.

Also, the club has a funding opportunity by volunteering at the Santa Claus Parade and Lights of Christmas events in Fort McMurray on November 26th. If you’re interested in doing portrait photography or operating a hotdog/hot chocolate stand, feel free to let me know! We need at least 6 people.

Also, 2012 executive positions are available. If you’re interested in getting more involved in the community, taking part in more photography opportunities, and adding to your resume, please let me know or check out the website for more details! So far we have the current 2012 nominations:

Alan Reeve – President
Zoran Knezic – Vice President
Barb Jewers – Treasurer/Public Relations
Mike Di Fabio – Public Relations/Website Editor

We’ll be voting for positions next meeting! Hope to see everyone there!

September Update

Looks like summer is wrapping up, but it’s a great opportunity to get in some nice fall pictures! Our next meeting is scheduled for Sunday October 2nd at 2PM (Room 234). We will hopefully be discussing types of filters for cameras and what they can do.

If you haven’t already seen it, check out the clubs first ever photo exhibit at MacDonald Island – “Looking Through the Lens”! It’ll be there for the next two weeks or so. Opening night was really successful and we look forward to having more events!

Congratulations to Alan Reeve for winning the August Photo Contest – Storytelling Landscape. Check out his picture in the Photo Gallery section!

If you’re interested in giving a few photography tutorials at MacDonald Island let Ana Maria know. Her e-mail is anamaria.mendez@macdonaldisland.ca. She can provide more details (pay, dates, times, etc).

There is also a charity auction in December at MacDonald Island. You can sell your works and a portion of the payment will go to a charity! More details to come! But if you’re interested, you can start thinking about printing and framing!

Our next photo contest theme is “Fall”. The deadline is September 30th. NO LATE SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED. These pictures can be taken anywhere, but must be taken after September 11th. Check out our website www.woodbuffalophotography.com for contest guidelines!

Our last couple field trips were a great success! We captured some great sunset photographs at Macqua Lake and fabulous Aurora lights photographs at Gregoire Lake! Check out the following link for an awesome time lapse video that Bill Martin made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPQir8LI1Co. If you have any suggestions for our next field trip feel free to send them in!

LAST MINUTE FIELD TRIP!

Hi all!

Sorry for the late notice! I just received info from Bill that the northern lights tomorrow are supposed to be INSANELY ACTIVE!!! So, for those who are interested (it’s  FRIDAY NIGHT!!!) lets meet at the Bob Lamb Centre at 9:30PM sharp (DON’T BE LATE!) and carpool down to Gregoire Lake!!!! If you’re new, just look for random people mingling around and come say hi!

People will need a tripod if they have one (I’ll bring some extras), memory cards, extra batteries and a wide angle lens.  Bug spray and hot chocolate are also recommended!

Here is the link to the location at Gregoire Lake which is really great for viewing the northern lights (http://g.co/maps/kzx6j – just click on link and zoom out to see location).  Also people can visit www.astronomynorth.com for forecasts.

Hope to see you all there!
